Congenital Hypothyroidism is a neonatal disorder where the thyroid gland is underdeveloped or absent, causing insufficient hormone production.

Symptoms

● This is most commonly found due to an abnormal newborn screening with the patient having no
symptoms and requires treatment as soon as possible.
● If left untreated, symptoms could include
o Prolonged jaundice
o Low muscle tone
o Poor feeding
o Poor growth
o Intellectual disability

Treatment

● Treatment is simple and effective. Children take a daily thyroid hormone medication to replace
what the body is missing. Regular check-ups help make sure the dose is correct.
