Supprelin® LA (Histrelin)

What is Supprelin?

Supprelin LA contains the medicine Histrelin. It is used to treat central precocious puberty (CPP), which means puberty starts too early.

Supprelin helps pause puberty so children have more time to grow and develop at a more normal pace.

How Does Supprelin Work?

Supprelin lowers certain hormone signals in the body. This helps:

• Slow or stop early puberty changes
• Slow rapid bone growth and bone aging
• Help improve adult height potential

How Is Supprelin Given?

Supprelin is a small, flexible implant placed under the skin of the upper arm.

• The implant is inserted during a minor procedure by a healthcare provider.
• Your child may receive numbing medicine during the procedure.
• The implant usually works for 12 months.
• After 12 months, the implant is removed and may be replaced if treatment is still needed.

What Should I Expect After Starting Treatment?

During the first few weeks after the implant is placed, hormone levels may briefly rise before they go down.

Your child may temporarily have:

• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes
• Vaginal spotting or bleeding
• Acne
• Puberty symptoms that seem stronger at first

These symptoms usually improve after the medicine starts working.

Common Side Effects

Many children do well with Supprelin.

Possible side effects include:

• Bruising, soreness, or swelling at the implant site
• Mild pain in the arm
• Headache
• Mood changes
• Hot flashes
• Acne

Caring for the Implant Site

After the procedure:

• Keep the area clean and dry as instructed.
• Avoid rough play or heavy activity with the arm for several days.
• Follow all instructions from your healthcare team.

Call your provider if the area becomes:

• Very red
• Very swollen
• Warm to the touch
• Painful
• Draining fluid

Serious Side Effects — Call Your Provider

Call your healthcare provider right away if your child has:

• Severe pain at the implant site
• Trouble moving the arm
• Severe headaches
• Vision changes
• Seizures
• Signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling, rash, or trouble breathing

Important Tips

• Keep all follow-up appointments.
• Your child may need blood tests, growth checks, or bone age X-rays.
• Puberty changes should slow down after treatment begins.
• The implant must be removed or replaced on time.

When to Call the Healthcare Provider

Call your provider if:

• Puberty changes continue or worsen
• The implant seems to come out
• Your child has side effects that concern you
• You notice redness, swelling, or drainage at the implant site
